In 1984, O. L. Ivakhiv graduated with honours from Ternopil State Medical Institute. Until 1988, he worked as a therapist, a doctor at the Office of Infectious Diseases, and later as a district infectious disease specialist in the Volochysk Central District Hospital of Khmelnytskyi Region.

From 1988 to 1990, O. L. Ivakhiv studied at the clinical residency at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Ternopil State Medical Institute. Then, he worked as a junior researcher at the same department. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as an infectious disease specialist at the Children’s Infectious Diseases Department of Ternopil City Hospital No. 2.

In 1994, O. L. Ivakhiv successfully defended his PhD thesis on the topic: “Effectiveness of carbon enterosorbent and bioflavonoids in the complex treatment of patients with food poisoning and salmonellosis”. Since 1994, he has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology of Ternopil State Medical Institute, and from 1997 to the present time, he has been an associate professor at the same department. O. L. Ivakhiv has a higher qualification category in the specialty “Infectious diseases”.

O. L. Ivakhiv’s scientific interests include problems of diagnosis and treatment of acute intestinal infections, herpes diseases, TORCH infections, viral hepatitis, Lyme borreliosis and other tick-borne infections.

He is the author and co-author of more than 300 printed papers, including 2 monographs, 9 textbooks, 7 training manuals, 4 reference books, and a number of methodological recommendations. He has 6 patents for inventions.

From 1997 to 2021, he was the secretary of the board of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Association of Infectious Disease Specialists”. With his active participation, 6 congresses of infectious disease specialists of Ukraine, more than 40 plenums and scientific and practical conferences were held, the recommendations of which are taken into account by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. He was the responsible secretary of the editorial boards of all scientific collections of these events. O. L. Ivakhiv is the member of the editorial board of the all-Ukrainian scientific and practical medical journal “Infectious Diseases”.

O. L. Ivakhiv is the laureate of the Academic Award of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for preventive medicine for a series of scientific papers (2013). He was awarded the Agapetus of Pechersk medal of the Association of Infectious Disease Specialists of Ukraine “For significant contribution to the fight against infectious diseases” (2002), as well as medals of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital (2005) and M. I. Pyrohov Vinnytsia National Medical University (2010), diplomas of the All-Ukrainian Association of Infectious Disease Specialists (2006, 2010, 2015, 2022), the Department of Health Protection of the Ternopil Regional State Administration (2017). O. L. Ivakhiv was awarded the honorary title “Honoured Doctor of Ukraine” (2020).

O. L. Ivakhiv is a highly qualified infectious disease doctor, possesses modern methods of diagnosing infectious diseases and treating patients, and successfully implements new methods into practice.
